If F#J*T$R@L, then which of the following is definitely true ?

 A

L is the brother of F.

 B

F is the sister of L.

 C

F is the brother of J.

 D

L is the brother of J.

Soln.
Ans: b
  1. F#J means F is the sister of J. So the option "F is the brother of J" is not possible.
  2. J*T means J is the son of T. So J and F are the son and daughter of T.
  3. T$R means T is the husband of R. So J and F are the son and daughter of R also.
  4. R@L means R is the mother of L. So J, L and F are children of R and T, but we cannot say whether L is male or female. So "L is brother of F" and "L is brother of J" are not possible as answer. We are left with "F is sister of L", which is true because F is female.

In nutshell: since, sex of L is not known hence we cannot say whether L is brother of F or F is sister of L. These two options can be ruled out. However, it is clear that F is the sister of L.

Question 2

P is the brother of Q and R. S is R's mother. T is P's father. Which of the following statements cannot be definitely true?

 A

 C

S is P's mother.

 D

Soln.
Ans: a

On the basis of the information given in the question, it is confirmed that S is the mother and T is the father of P, Q and R. Out of them P is male and the sex of Q and R is not determined. Hence, it cannot be definitely said that Q is T's son because the sex of Q is not known as a result Q may be daughter of T.
