Question 1
In a line of 70 boys, A is 6th to the right of S and S is 11th to the left of V. If A is 28th from the right end of the row, what is the position of V from the left end of the row?
Ans: d
Let the positions of A, S, V from the left end be a, s and v respectively. The position of the last end is 70. We are given that.
a = s + 6.
s + 11 = v.
a + 27 = 70.
We have to find the value of v. From the last equation, we have a = 70 - 27 = 43. Put it in first to get s = 43 - 6 = 37. Finally by the second equation, we have v = 37 + 11 = 48.
