# Ratio and Proportion Quiz Set 014

### Question 1

If X is 40% more than Z, and Y is 30% more than Z, what is the ratio of X to Y?

A

\$1{1/13}\$.

B

\$2{1/4}\$.

C

\$2{2/3}\$.

D

\$3{8/15}\$.

Soln.
Ans: a

Clearly, X = \$(100 + 40)/100\$ × Z, and Y = \$(100 + 30)/100\$ × Z, which gives X : Y as \$(100 + 40)/(100 + 30)\$ = \$140/130\$ = \${14/13}\$, which is same as: \$1{1/13}\$

### Question 2

If \$22/39\$ of A's amount is \$11/13\$ of B's amount, and the total amount they have is Rs. 2000, what is the amount with A?

A

Rs. 1200.

B

Rs. 1202.

C

Rs. 1198.

D

Rs. 1204.

Soln.
Ans: a

Let the amounts with them be A and B. So \$22/39\$A = \$11/13\$B, which can be re-arranged to get A : B = 3 : 2. So A = \$3/5 × 2000\$ = Rs. 1200.

### Question 3

If \$8/9\$ of A's amount is \$3/4\$ of B's amount, and the total amount they have is Rs. 4000, what is the amount with A?

A

Rs. 2400.

B

Rs. 2402.

C

Rs. 2398.

D

Rs. 2404.

Soln.
Ans: a

Let the amounts with them be A and B. So \$8/9\$A = \$3/4\$B, which can be re-arranged to get A : B = 3 : 2. So A = \$3/5 × 4000\$ = Rs. 2400.

### Question 4

What is the ratio A : B : C if A = \$9/10\$B and B = \$16/19\$C?

A

72 : 80 : 95.

B

9 : 16 : 19.

C

10 : 16 : 19.

D

9 : 19 : 144.

Soln.
Ans: a

We can write B = \$10/9\$A. Now we can use B as the pivot and write \$10/9\$A = B = \$16/19\$C. Divide all three with 10 × 16 to get \$A/{9 × 16}\$ = \$B/{10 × 16}\$ = \$C/{19 × 10}\$. So the required ratio is 144 : 160 : 190. The answer is 72 : 80 : 95.

### Question 5

A sum of Rs. 6600 is to be divided among three partners, P, Q and R, in the ratio 6 : 2 : 3. How much does Q get?

A

Rs. 1200.

B

Rs. 1202.

C

Rs. 1198.

D

Rs. 1204.

Soln.
Ans: a

The share of Q is in the ratio like this: \$2/{6 + 2 + 3} × 6600\$ = Rs. 1200. This Blog Post/Article "Ratio and Proportion Quiz Set 014" by Parveen (Hoven) is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
