Question 1
Two numbers A and B are in ratio 14 : 15. If they are both increased by 10%, what will be the new ratio of A : B?
Question 2
What is the value of the first part if 308 is divided in the ratio $7/3$ : $5/3$ : $8/9$?
Question 3
A bag contains 25p, 10p and 5p coins in the ratio 6 : 9 : 11. How many 25 paise coins are there if the total amount is Rs. 59?
120.
122.
118.
124.
Ans: a
Let the total number of coins be 6x, 9x and 11x. Please note that 25p = Rs. 1/4, 10p = Rs. 1/10, 5p = Rs. 1/20, so they add to x × $(6/4 + 9/10 + 11/20)$ = 59. LCM of 4, 10 and 20 is 20, multiplying both sides by 20 we have x × $(6 × 5 + 9 × 2 + 11)$ = 59 × 20, which is x × $(30 + 18 + 11)$ = 59 × 20, solving for x we get x = 20, so 25p coins = 20 × 6 = 120.
Question 4
Two numbers M and N are in ratio 15 : 7. If they are, respectively, increased by 20% and 30%, what will be the new ratio of M : N?
Question 5
If 10% of a number is equal to 4/13 of another number, then what is the ratio of first number to second number?
$3{1/13}$.
$4{5/12}$.
$1{4/5}$.
$5{4/15}$.
Ans: a
We have ${10A}/100 = {4B}/13$, which can be re-arranged to $A/{4 × 100} = B/{10 × 13}$, so the required ratio is (4 × 100) : (10 × 13), which is 40 : 13. So the answer is ${40/13}$, which is same as: $3{1/13}$.
